We've been working on a new project with Steve Francque. Steve is a singer/songwriter from Chicago. He decided to come out for some Rocky Mountain air and start his new CD here in the Zephyr Room. Some great local musicians were brought in to help get it done.
Over this passed year, we've taken on a project near and dear, the archiving and digital transfer of recordings of original material by the late Chris Mickle. The music is now available in a CD Boxset entitled "The Collective Works". The project was produced by Avocado Productions' Angie Dickinson Mickle and Mastered by Dave Glasser at Airshow, Inc in Boulder, CO. The official release date is March 30th which would have been Chris' birthday. Visit the order page at Micklesong.com to hear samples and to place your order.
After a little more than two years, the cassette transfer project for Naropa University is finally finished. We were proud to have had the opportunity to work with the Restoration Center @ Airshow on this extensive project.
We pulled out the traveling "Live" recording system recently for a performance by Caitlin Jemma and the Long Gone Stringband at The Songwriters Series hosted by St. James Episcopal Church in Wheat Ridge, CO. Hailing from Arcata, California, Caitlin and the band stopped in Wheat Ridge during their summer tour to play for happy Bluegrass fans. Also performing was Patrick Dethlefs, an impressive singer/songwriter from Golden, CO. Our traveling system handled house sound, band monitors and mutli-track recording all at once.

Avocado Productions has been working with The Restoration Center @ Airshow Mastering to transfer close to 3000 cassette tapes for the Naropa University Libary Archive. The recordings date from the early years of what began as Naropa Institute and includes classroom workshops and lectures by its founders.
Jeff Finlin is a brilliant singer/songwriter whose music draws you in with intelligent lyrics and captiving melodies. Jeff performs around the world, and we were there to capture his show at Oskar Blues in Longmont, CO. This wonderful acoustic performance is now available for download or on CD. "Live Songs For The Ice Age" can be purchased through Jeff's online store.
The Eric Genuis concert we've been posting YouTube clips of is finally available in its entirety on DVD. Eric is offering the concert DVD for a donation and postage. View the donation page on Eric's Website for more information on obtaining your copy.
Truly a beautiful piece. We are proud to have been a part of it.
Avocado Productions was proud to have Grant Sabin record his new EP in the Zephyr Room recently. The EP is scheduled for June 4th with a CD release party at Kinfolks in Manitou Springs, CO.
We have been hard at work on a re-package of Eric Genuis' wonderful music. The CD has been totally remixed and mastered here at Avocado Productions. Eric is an incredibly talented composer.
The vocalist is Lorenzo Owens.
Had Cedra Kuehn in the studio recently to add a cello part to a project. Cedra is the Associate Principle Cello for the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and one great lady. We had a blast!
The Zephyr Room is cooking with the addition of a couple of vintage Altec 1591A compressor/preamps. With plenty of clean "reference" sound coming out of the studio, it was time to color things up. And these pres deliver. From 57's to a Schoeps mic; Vocals to Bass, everything sounds great through the 1591A. We like them so much that there will be two more sitting in the rack in the near future.
Avocado Productions recorded and helped produce the video recording of a Eric Genuis concert in 2010. Here is a link to a clip from the concert featuring Alena Merimee (who's just 17 years old) on violin. What talent!!
The studio is finally ready for recording and just in time for a client to arrive with 31 wires and even more cassette tapes for transfer. Betty Buschette is from Minnesota and is sitting in during the transfer. Most of the recordings are of Betty's mother who was a professional singer in her younger years.
Between our mad push to get the studio finished there has been time to master the "Emotional Freedom" CD for Gaiam. And edit a couple chapters of a Harper Audio romance novel called "A Bite to Remember". Yes, it is about vampires.
We've been very busy with transfers of late including our ongoing work for the Vedanta Archives. You can purchase some of the lectures we have transferred including those by Aldous Huxley from Gem Tone.
Angie has also been mixing an upcoming Gaiam CD release of work from composer John Gonzalez. The CD entitled "Escape" will be available exclusively at Barnes and Nobles stores and is set for a December 2008 release. Look for the Gaiam kiosk.
We are once again doing wire recording transfer work for the Vedanta Archives in Hollywood, CA. The Archive received grant funding from the National Archives to preserve their significant collection of audio recordings. This includes close to 700 wire recordings. Among the transfers from wire in this collection lectures by famous 20th Century writers and thinkers including Aldous Huxley and Gerald Heard.
Angie mixed episode 6 of the Rabbit Hole Radio Theatre series "Portals" which aired on KRFC 88.9 FM in Fort Collins.
